I have bought my 1.2 ELX Punto second-hand just over a month ago A few problems so far Sometimes the dipped beam switches off when switching the main beam on A mysterious clutch judder when taking off from rest, which sometimes disappears. I complained to the dealer and they had the clutch pedal lubricated. This solved the problem for a week but it has come back since There is a strange rubbing noise coming from the brakes when applied during driving, after the car has been standing for a few minutes. This noise disappears after the car has been driven for a few minutes and the brakes have been applied a couple times. However, it comes back if you drive it after it’s been standing once again, strange?! Driver’s door hinges are put together worse than anything else I’ve seen before!! I opened the door to get out of the car a week ago, during those string wind conditions, and the wind pushed the door forward so hard it actually misaligned it out of place and snapped the check strap (the bar that regulates the three positions when the door is open)! I took it to one of the bodyshops from a very well-known UK dealer network (not Fiat) and they reckon that there is no way to restore the gaps between the front and rear driver’s side doors and the wing! A lot of rubbish I now have to get in and out of my car not being able to hear the proper thumping noise the passengers door makes, which is an encouraging sign that, the other door is perfectly ok but not my driver’s door Apparently that’s how far forward it can go they said, once it comes off that’s it!!! Useless place, I’ve had enough, I’ve only had the car just over a month and I can’t bear the fact that people can’t do their jobs properly even if they get paid for it This car was spotless and due to stupid weather the driver’s door is still too far back Both headlights will steam up when going to a car wash or when it’s raining outside or it is very humid. They dry themselves out eventually, not a problem just a bit annoying though Apart from the above I had no other problems, I hope it stays that way! Good points: It averages 40 to 48 mp Very nippy in town, although very slow when pulling away from 10 mph using second gear. Otherwise quite fast for a 1.2 Very good Blaupunkt Radio-Cassette sound system with 6 speakers + 100 Watt Sub woofer, speed volume control sensitive (which I can’t seem to get to work properly) all the standard RDS-AF etc Driver’s Airbag Central locking Follow-me home headlights Electric Front Windows Dual mode variable assist Electric Power Steering (includes CITY button for more assistance) which helps the fuel economy significantly and many more Bottom line is, this is a great car for the money, has done just over 35000 miles and it’s due for it’s big 36000 mile service soon (I’m dreading this), lots of equipment with ELX models and above I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one and I am already considering to upgrade to the new range Sporting model, I know I only had this for a month! I read that all of the clutch juddering and other minor problems have been ironed out in the new Punto range, so I will keep this for a while and then most likely upgrade to the Sporting.
