I purchased a Fiat Punto 60S from new Nov 1998. At 14 months when the top dead centre and rpm sensors became intermittent, the car would start when it took the notion At 3yrs (35k) the exhaust fell off, the pipe between the catalytic converter and the first silences box corroded through At 4yrs (50k) the rear swing arms had to be replaced along with the shock absorbers. Also at 4yrs the rear break pipes were corroded through and had to be replaced At 60k the water pump started to leak and the sump cover was that badly corroded that oil was oozing through the metal At 65k a bracket next to the battery holding relays fell apart (again rust) On top of the above the front discs need to be replaced at 18 months due to corrosion (not wear and tear) and therefore you need to replace the pads at the same time Overall the car is pleasant enough to drive and it looks good Body corrosion - there isnt any, the paintwork looks as good as they day I purchased it However in my opinion the faults seem to follow a pattern with most of the issues being common to the model. The new model seems to have inherited some old faults, which is something I will be bearing in mind when I come to replace my car this September.
