I bought my Focus second hand after it had done 17,000 miles in 3 years. Since then I have done a further 30,000 miles and have had no major problems. I have encountered many of the more minor problems listed by other people on this site, namely:
1) Pollen filters not clipped back properly after service leading to several inches of water in the passenger footwell after heavy rain.

2) Fuel gauge reading empty when car has just been filled up.

3) Rust on boot and in door seals (fixed under warranty)

4) Leaky power steering pump (expensive to replace)

And a new problem Ive noticed recently is that the temperature gauge drops down to cold whenever the car is stationary. Apparently this is linked to the fuel gauge problem and is not a major concern.
My experience with the Focus has been overwhelmingly good, largely due to the excellent garage where I have it serviced. I switched garages after the one who misfitted the pollen filter claimed to be unable to fix the problem for 12 weeks. After a bit of phoning round, another garage said they could fix it later that day, and Ive gone there ever since.
I wouldnt buy another one simply because of the hardness of the front seats which I find exacerbate back problems. |
