We have just traded this car in after a year of ownership.
Just about a week after buying it we had to replace the cvt powder clutch. This is VERY expensive...over ?£1000 easily at a Fiat dealership. We had it done for ?£800 BEWARE this is a common fault! Not long after a rear suspenion arm failed (again a common problem on puntos!) Around ?£100 to fix at a good local garage. Next thing to go was the exhaust downpipe. The hanger had rusted off and the drop in the pipe had caused the "flexi" part to go (yet again another common punto fault)
The car was then recalled by Fiat to have the rear brake pipes replaced (these could fail due to corrosion) other things include another punto fault, the rocker box gasket going (cheap to replace though this time at about ?£7.50)
The car had a little surface rust around the boot lock and the bottom of the tailgate, other than that the body/ paintwork were very good (very thin metal used for the panels though)
On the plus side the car was very easy to drive, fantastic on petrol, started first time and, I think, looked great..very stylish!
If you are looking to buy a Punto selecta..PLEASE have it checked over first..that clutch and gearbox are VERY well known problems and as I mentioned earlier are VERY expensive to fix!!
In a way it will be missed, nice styling etc...But those huge repair bills will not!
Would we buy another?? What do you think? No way..We bought a Nissan.
