I have recently purchased the above mentioned car and man is it a beauty (although not quite a Type R).
Having gone from driving a Nissan Almera Im no newbie in driving a large hatchback and im deffinately not the type to downgrade from one car to the next so my expectations were high.
I must say the Civic type S does not dissappoint, it drives as good as it looks but I think Ill start with the interior first and work my way to how it drives.
The Civic type S interior was one of the reasons which pulled me from getting a Type R coming from the perspective of either getting a luxurious and elegant car or a sporty eye catching indulgence that is the type R.
The first thing you notice about the type S interior when sitting inside is how large it feels wheater your sitting in the front or the back. In all of the hatchbacks that Ive driven this has by far the most leg room as there is no trench running through the middle of the car so the floor is completely flat at the back. The same is said about sitting in the front as the most noticeable thing is the gear stick is located on the dash board which leaves loads of space on the floor for hidden compartments and storage areas. If there is one thing the Civic has an abundance of, are cup holders which seem to slide out from a lot of different places and angles so a theres never the excuse a drink is out of reach.
With the type S I also got as standard half trim leather seats, Climate control + A/C and also cruise control which leaves me to think if I have indeed bought a car or a house?
The exteria if compared with the type R does lose out a bit in that it dont look quite as sexy without the body kit and larger alloys and spoiler and does seem more large and bulky but who said I was after a sexy car eh. The car however if compare with other hatchbacks of similar size has no other equal in that it provides practicality for its large boot and sleek aero dynamic design and will still attract the eyes of people you drive past.
Driving the car I can only describe as an experience that just makes me want to keep driving it more. It turns a driving trip from going just from A - B to wanting to drive to further places like C, D and E. When I first test drove the car I had to ask the guy if the engine was turned on as I could barely hear it but when you put the foot down it just comes alive and keeps wanting more gas.
With all the good things said there are however a few bad things as well, such as the turning angle on the car isnt great and find I reach full lock a lot sooner before I can make a turn which is quite important when trying to park a car of that size. I also find the type S seems to drink the petrol quite a bit in comparison to previous cars Ive driven with similar milage but maybe thats to be expected for an engine that size.
Overall its a lovely car that I wouldnt trade for a type R as the type R is just eye candy. If your after practicality, luxurious driving and lower insurance group (compared to type R) then the type S is for you.
