Update to Earlier Review listed below:

Skoda Octavia Vrs Saloon 2004
Absolutely brilliant car in terms of performance to price, beats most cars on the road, build quality is good, absolutely enormous boot and bungs of room for both the passengers and the driver, drive is responsive and firm and leaves you feeling in full control of the car.

Now the negatives, forget the 35 mpg, realistically it does 28 - 30.1 mpg unless you are constantly on the motorway. The interior dashboard feels very cheap (i suppose they had to cut costs somewhere), and the partial leather seats have a white fabric in the middle which WILL get dirty unless you invest in covers for them. The paint on the bodywork is very thin and is prone to stone chips even if you drive sensibly (i am not a boy racer).

If you can forget these minor problems then the car is a fantastic driver, overall i am impressed with the skoda although the next version i obtain will probably be a diesel variant rather than the petrol variety (petrol being the astronomical price it is at the moment).

I would not hesitate in buying another skoda although i will have to put up with the taxi driver jokes !!!!

Just went in for a 40,000 service and cost ?‚?£235 at a main skoda garage, hmm 4 new spark plugs at 9.80 a pop, is that really necessary ?

UPDATE:

I have only had the car two months and the water constantly ingresses into the boot after the rain, the coolant sensor packed up, the central locking packed up on the drivers door and back rear left of the car and i have a constant rubbing noise from the back right when braking (i did get the brakes checked and everything is okay ?????), i am beginning to think that the mechanics of this car are okay but a lot of money is being saved on not using quality materials everywhere else.

Oh and the car windscreen constantly freezes and takes ages for the car to clear the windscreen in the morning, never had this problem with my peugeot 306 hdi, beginning to think this car is a bit of a lemon, oh and the fact that no-one will want the car after you have finished with it unless you take a massive hit in depreciation (dont believe parkers !).
